Two Separate Car Dealerships Needed to Work as One
David Michael Auto Group, a division of Group One Auto, was expanding and needed to move to two newly built dealerships in Freehold, NJ. The first, a Mercedes Benz dealership, needed the infrastructure to house the wiring for all the main phone and computer systems, and gateway to the internet. The second, a Volkswagon dealership, needed a seamless connection to the Mercedes complex so that both buildings would be connected to each other without incurring additional infrastructure costs.
David Michael Auto Group’s needs included upgrading their voice and data cabling services using a single source end-to-end provider who would be accountable at every phase of the project. They also wanted network cabling to carry the livelihood of their organization – information – from one location to another, without disruption of service to their demanding business. In addition, the two separate 65,000 square foot buildings needed to be connected through fiber optic cabling to ensure high speed voice and data connectivity among all employees with installation taking place during normal business hours.
“Eastern DataComm was really unique from other vendors I’ve worked with in the past. They were able to complete a very big job dependably, arriving when they said they’d come and accomplishing what they said they’d do. It is not an industry norm to work with such a responsive, flexible and hard-working company. I was impressed that Eastern DataComm completed the job with all its specifications on time and without disruption. They developed the most appropriate and cost effective solution to meet our growing needs.”

The Solution – A Cabling Infrastructure to Support High Speed Voice and Data Connection
Eastern DataComm installed 100,000 feet of Cat 5e plenum cabling infrastructure to support a high speed voice and data connection to both the Mercedes Benz and Volkswagon facilities. Eastern DataComm set up 400 cable runs and installed two 4-post open bay racks using Cat 5e 48-position Ortronics patch panels. In addition, 300 feet of fiber optic cabling was run underground to connect the two buildings. Eastern DataComm streamlined the process and provided a single point of contact for all aspects of the installation.
A Seamless Transition to Voice/Data Connectivity
Since voice and data traffic can exist on one manageable and flexible infrastructure, Eastern DataComm made a smooth transition for David Michael Auto Group, using quality materials, experienced technicians and certified wiring, without disruption to their busy dealerships. Importantly, throughout the entire installation, David Michael Auto Group had one point of contact who had a deep understanding of their cabling infrastructure needs, and who adhered to all their deadline commitments.
