The Problem
The Northern Valley Regional High School District, including the Demarest and Old Tappan campuses and Board of Education office, utilized four antiquated and separate communications systems. Each school had one PBX to perform normal administrative telephone functions and one PBX to handle classroom intercom calls, for a total of four separate systems. In addition, there were two different systems handling voice mail. This approach created a complex communications system with little system management capabilities or cohesion among locations.
Eastern DataComm's Solution
After meeting with school admistrators to understand their current and future needs, Eastern DataComm introduced and ultimately installed one ShoreTel IP PBX system with nearly 400 IP telephones at the two Northern Valley Regional High Schools, replacing four different telephone systems and two voice mail systems, creating one seamlessly integrated system between all school locations.
The ShoreTel IP PBX solution is designed to operate off a single database image while distributing intelligence to individual ShoreTel switches. This results in Northern Valley Regional High School District easily managing the system, making additions and changes on the fly, all with minimal training and education for end users and administration. ShoreTel's distributed architecture allows its single system to handle classroom intercom needs, administrative telephone requirements, voice mail, and all inbound and outbound calls.
The Benefits to Northern Valley Regional High School District
The ShoreTel solution has improved call flow, increased user productivity, and created a cost effective communications solution for the different school locations. Authorized users can now make and receive calls, utilize the intercom system to contact and monitor classrooms, and even make school wide announcements, all from their own desk. They can also assign their own extension to any other phone in the system in case they move from room to room or school to school, reducing complexity and improving system management and the overall cost of ownership.
